Wi-Fi alarm for unknown people entering the house
A Dutch startup has invented a system including several Wi-Fi routers that can detect and inform the user when an unknown person enters the house, the movement of people in the house, and elderly people falling down.
According to New Atlas, Wi-Fi security usually means keeping virtual attackers away from people’s internet network, now a new system has been invented that uses Wi-Fi to track real attackers. The “Gamegee” Wi-Fi home alarm system is able to identify people and pets living in the same place over time and issue a warning message when unknown people or even when an elderly person falls.
People’s homes are now full of invisible Wi-Fi signals that connect mobile phones, laptops, electric lights, refrigerators, and everything that is made smart. However, people cannot see or feel these signals.
Interestingly, researchers have shown that special algorithms can be used to analyze Wi-Fi signals and track the presence of a person in a room even from outside the walls. In addition, further improvements have been made to differentiate between people based on height, body shape or even the way they walk up to 20 people in a room.
Now, a Dutch startup called Gamegy has turned the said technology into a consumer product. A Wi-Fi home alarm system consists of a set of routers that form a network that first ensures reliable internet connection throughout the home. But its main function is motion tracking with the help of algorithms embedded in the tool.
According to the company, a two-week test showed that the system can recognize the body shape of the residents of the house, house guests and even children and pets. The unfamiliar movements then cause an alert to be issued to the user that attributes it to a new guest or alerts users to the presence of a potential intruder in the home. Another use of the tool is to check the movement of elderly people in their homes, and if they fall, an alert will be sent to their family members.
The mentioned system, which is controlled by an app, can be set to be always active or activated only when the person is not at home. Although this tool looks a bit scary from the security point of view, but Gamegy insists that all the data related to the movements are processed and stored in the routers.
This tool is now available on the Indiegogo website for fundraising at a price of $320 and one can get 3 routers by paying this price or 4 routers by paying $374. If everything goes according to plan, cargo loading will begin in January 2025.
